A basic philosophy and goal of the MVA has been to provide the educational leadership in developing a competitive and competent work force. It has long been the approach of vocational-technical educators to prepare students for this endeavor by applying real-life work situations.

Tech Prep is an excellent strategy that facilitates this instructional method of hands on approach to learning. It encourages a strong continuance of learning by structured academics and vocational technical training in a sequence of courses, which connects high school and post secondary education. Tech Prep/Applied Academic programs integrates academic and vocational content. Students have an opportunity to improve basic skills while developing a foundation to improve their employability.

Tech Prep programs in no way should be considered as a substitute or replacement for vocational-technical education, but it has given vocational instruction renewed emphasis. The MVA is committed to improving students access to all educational programs which will be better prepare them for the complex technologically demanding 21st century. Tech Prep programs help support this commitment and the MVA strongly supports all efforts of school districts to prepare students with a solid foundation for further education and productive work.
