WESTFORD — The accolades keep piling up for Tessera Hayes.
The Nashoba Valley Technical High School senior from Littleton won first prize in the graphics category of the Anna Maria College 2009 High School Art Competition.
That honor follows one she received last winter, when her design was chosen from close to 200 submissions from high-school students across Massachusetts to adorn the T-shirts worn by more than 2,700 participants in the SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference.
At the Anna Maria College competition, Tess’ drawing, “Bish,” which portrays a rendering of a half-bird/half-fish, was chosen as the best in the high-school graphics category in the Anna Maria College contest. Hers was the only piece submitted from Nashoba Tech.
“I was pretty surprised I won it,” Tess said.
The award also shows her versatility. Her SkillsUSA design was done in Photoshop, while her most recent prize-winning piece is a pen-and-ink.
Tess entered the competition with urging from Design & Visual Communications instructor Dennis Whitney, who is an alumnus of Anna Maria College.
“I think Tess’ artwork draws people to it,” Whitney said. “It’s clean and simple and draws people in.”
Tess, who graduates in the spring, is hoping to attend the Massachusetts College of Art next fall.
Tess’ artwork is on display at Anna Maria College in Paxton, along with the works of the other winners.
