Service Award
Overview
The MVA Southeastern Chapter Community Service Award will salute an outstanding
school from Southeastern Massachusetts. This award will be in the amount of $500 which will be awarded T.B.A., 2007 at a MVA Southeastern Chapter dinner meeting.
This money will be given to the winning school’s scholarship fund in the name of the
team.
The school may give this money to a member or members of the team as a scholarship or
place in their general scholarship fund.
SUBMIT ONLY ONE PROJECT PER SCHOOL
The award committee will consist of the Southeastern Chapter Officers and Reps.
This said committee will review all of the finalist’s documentation and be responsible for
making all the necessary arrangements for the winner.

Community Service Award
The purpose of this award
is to evaluate activities in the Southeastern Chapter that benefit the
community and to recognize excellence and professionalism in the area of
community service. This award will also
enable the community to become more aware of the outstanding work being
performed by the students.
Requirements:
Each school will present
their best community service project to be judged for this award. Only one community service project is to be
submitted from each school. Notebooks
containing information about more than one project will not be judged.
The award will consist of two parts, a notebook outlining the community service project and a video taped presentation by the school’s team.
Notebook: A notebook must be compiled which describes
the schools community service project. The
notebook must be a 3-ring binder, no thicker than one and one-half inches. The notebook must not contain more than 30
pages (60 surfaces).
The notebook should be organized in
the following format:
Title Page: The title page should include the name
of the project
and
school name.
Table of contents:
Section I: Objectives of the project
Section II: Community
Impact (how many people were reached by
the project, what positive results were achieved and how did the project make a
difference).
Section III: Impact on the school (what difference
community involvement
made for students
Section IV: Letters of recognition (no more than
five)
Section V: Publicity
Video Taped Presentation: A team of 2-3
will represent the school in a video taped professional
presentation. The team may perform with
a minimum of two members and a maximum of
three. The purpose of the presentation
is to provide the scholarship committee with an
overview of the school’s community service project
and the positive results
achieved. ALL team members must take an
active part in the presentation. The presentation shall be seven to ten
minutes in length. Each team
must use at least one of the
following visual formats in their presentation:
Flip Charts
Overhead transparencies
35mm slide presentation
PowerPoint or other computer
generated presentation program
Clothing Requirements: Professional business attire
Penalty:
Five points will be deducted for each 30
seconds or fraction thereof under seven minutes of fraction thereof ten
minutes. Time will be started when the
presentation begins. Teams are
encouraged to be creative in their presentations. The use of visuals is strongly encouraged. All charts and graphs must be student
produced. No commercially produced
materials will be allowed.
