LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
The legislative committee is currently monitoring several pieces of legislation for the 2009 – 2010 session. Traditionally, there are three committees that deal with legislation that can impact teachers or education in general. These are; Education, Public Safety, & Public Service. The bills to appear before the Public Service Committee have not yet been listed.
Education Committee
S207 An Act to improve and coordinate teacher professional development in the
Commonwealth.
S215 An Act relative to the
S235 An Act establishing a consistent funding source for reinvestment in vocational
education infrastructure and programs.
S253 An Act relative to vocational education.
S269 An Act to amend regional school transportation funding.
H347 An Act relative to dress code in public schools.
H349 An Act relative to directing the Mass. D.O.E. be directed to establish separate
MCAS, examinations for special and vocational students.
H356 An Act relative to dismissal of teachers.
H365 An Act relative to allied health instructors at vocational schools.
H367 An Act providing for members of the southeastern regional school district to
reallocate the sum of their local contributions to the district by a majority vote
of boards of selectmen and a municipal council.
H405 An Act relative to educator licensure in the commonwealth.
H509 An Act Recognizing Vocational Technical Learning in Educational Assessment.
Public Safety Committee
S949 An Act Relative to Floor Finishing Products.
S957 An Act promote safety in the transportation of students.
S976 An Act relative to school bus safety enforcement.
H2199 An Act relative to seat belts on school buses.
H2203 An Act establishing safety standards for school buses.
H2289 An Act allowing the release of police reports to schools.
